He speaks her name with ease
It’s short hand for the description he use to give
It roles from his tongue like hot air on a summer breeze
And that’s where it use to live
It’s as if that name was born there
A child of his imagination
It rests until it is revealed,
On a bed of memories and a pillow of forgotten dreams
And he says “all that is isn’t all it seems.”
Taken back by visions of the past
We see how everything use to be
Children dream of unimportant things
Give them water wings to help them learn to float,
Training wheels to help them learn to ride,
Because fear commands them
And draws them to the depths of their insides
It took him every night to his death ‘till he awoke
His dreams held nothing but sleepless nights
Terrified with one eye opened to catch the shadow
The figure of the man that wasn’t there
“Insomnia for a reason” he said
Crawl into bed with your mother
She’ll comfort you so you can sleep again
Then another one to take away her safety
He learns to control them slowly
Waking first at his chosen moment
Then they disappeared
And he says with a silent scream
"just because you didn’t see it doesn’t mean it wasn't there"
