In a perfect world,
I'd come home to you every night and you'd hold me in your arms,
Protect me from my daily hassles and all things that harm.
In a perfect world,
You'd call me spontaneously to say "I love you,"
And talk about fantasies that you want me to help you make come true.
In a perfect world,
I wouldn't react harshly to your actions and ignorant deeds,
Instead accept you for who you are and calmly express my needs.
In a perfect world,
You'd listen to every word I say,
Express your sympathy and assure me that everything would be okay.
But this is reality
And I find myself far away from you in the night
Surrounded by the dark instead of your illuminating light.
This is reality
So we bottle up our true feelings and ignore what the future may bring,
Live in the moment, concentrating on the melody of our soul's strings.
This is reality
We're just human and have two very different agendas
So we tend to focus on our differences instead of that which blends us.
This is reality
We close our ears to each other and open them to ourselves
And independently learn that true happiness can be found even through this living hell.
