Their laughter was overpowering, the song on the radio and the sound of the blowing wind made a perfect combination for driving beneath the setting sun. They sang along to the radio as they drove around the city. They were day and night’s slaves, didn’t waste a minute of their time. The first one of them was gently holding the driving wheel choosing which way to go, while the one riding shotgun turned up the volume of the radio as she kept singing along. Lost in their glorious and happy times, they weren’t able to perceive the other car approaching theirs.
In a fraction of a second, the first one pupil’s dilated completely and her smile didn’t have time to escape her face due to the swift amazement of the tragedy that was about to begin. Her hands were still holding the driver’s wheel, a she quickly tried to push the brakes with her feet, an everyday task that seemed nearly impossible under the terrible pressure. She tried, but failed, she couldn’t stop the car in time. A drop of sweat began to wash down her forehead and her eyebrows began to move up and down, expressing more than million words could at that time. Suddenly she couldn’t speak, the words of the song she was singing along two seconds before where completely erased from her mind. The day’s light and that magical mood disappeared. At that moment there were only three things on her mind, the car, the speed and the fear.
The second one, who was not wearing the seat belt, looked up as if someone was calling her name and explaining what was about to happen. Her eyes ran from the radio to the car in front of them, only two meters away. The song on the radio turned into a deep silence and fear overcame her. In the face of the situation, her body became stiff in a second, knowing that there was no escape from its destiny. For a fleeting moment, she forgot about not wearing the seat belt, and the lyrics of the song entered her mind one last time.
“Lost but now I am found” was the last piece of lyric that slowly danced away from her mouth. A loud screech followed by an even louder bang roamed the streets. Debris everywhere, while the first one crashed into the big white bag, the second one quickly flew and ended up a few meters away from the crash. Two men were able to get the first one out of the car, laying her down on the pavement while the paramedics arrived to the scene. A tragic scene, full of smoke, red stains, wreckage all over.
As they observed their broken bodies lying on the pavement, the two friends were reunited once again. Without taking a second glance, the two girls began to walk towards their new destination. This time, they didn’t have to worry about the volume of the radio, cause their song echoed in the skies. This time, they didn’t have to worry about their speed, cause they were just in time. Just in time to walk into the sky beneath the setting sun.
