climbing the mountain
such an arduous hike
grasping branches for support
stumbling over rocks
ignoring my surroundings,
panting, pressing on so i can
reach the plateau,
look down upon the plains
on the other side
i've heard so much about.
after an eternity, i reach the edge.
the deafening roar of silent anticipation...
oh...
more mountains.
but among them,
lush valleys with blankets of flowers
i can almost smell their fragrance from
way up here.
above them, a vibrant blue sky
dotted with huge clouds,
soft and tangible in appearance
i can almost feel how it would be
to lie on one and float away.
suddenly it hits me-
the dry, flat plains
existed only in idealistic imaginations
i realize that is where they belong --
so flat and dry.
smiling, i continue my hike --
but this time, i take it slow
appreciate the scenery.
