Like learning how to speak

Only after you've lost your tongue

Like finally opening your eyes

And realizing you have none

Is learning how to love

After losing the object of your affection



It's frustrating, really

Heart-tearing to know

What you needed then

Is what you have now



Like knowing how to play

After the game's all finished

Like knowing how to cry

When you have no tears to shed

Is knowing what you should have done

Once the moment is gone



Like finding your ticket

After the plane's taken off

Like having medicine

When you no longer cough

Is saying "I love you"

After they've walked through the door
