STAND UPON HER OWN
(T. Beechey)
Her world, it seems so vibrant now
The stars that once seemed dull
Illuminate and won't allow
Not even one shadow to fall
The sunlight beams its brilliance
In ways she's never known
Ever since she found the resilience
To stand upon her own
The air, it feels much cleaner now
There's a perfume on the breeze
And the morning songs of birds somehow
Make echoes through the trees
Even the day seems less in length
Each hour's gone and flown
And it all began when she found the strength
To stand upon her own
All the time she spent unsure
Of where and why and what
All the inner pain that she endured
While trapped within that rut
It all seems a distant memory
She now stands upon her own
Those pages became past history
And a brand new chapter's grown
The paths she walks no longer bend
Each is straight ahead and clear
And her laughter never comes to end
With the presence of a tear
She now looks the world in the face
And her hidden smile's now shown
Because she now has found the grace
To stand upon her own
Now, look at her, her head's held high
From her lips there comes a song
She's earned at last what's been denied
For much too much too long
It's what she's wanted, what she deserves
But she'll never be alone
She's surrounded by love as she's found the nerve
To stand upon her own
All the time she spent unsure
Of why and what and where
All the inner pain that she endured
In the time that she spent there
It all seems a distant memory
She now stands upon her own
Those pages became past history
And a brand new chapter's grown
