SOMEWHERE FAR AWAY (IN THE SHADOW OF A FRIEND)
(T. Beechey)
Somewhere maybe far away
Or really close at hand
I'll find the key to yesterday
And come to understand
That now and then are opposite
And together cannot blend
That's the time I'll choose to sit
In the shadow of a friend
Somewhere maybe far away or in a passing thought
I'll find the key to yesterday and all the lessons taught
So that I will not repeat what fate shall recommend
And bask in glows so calm and sweet in the shadow of a friend
Somewhere maybe far yesterday
Or but a dream apart
I'll find the key to yesterday
Then finally I may start
To reclaim all that I have lost
To those I chose to lend
And then I'll total up the cost
In the shadow of a friend
Somewhere maybe far away or right before my face
I'll find the key to yesterday that hopefully can erase
Every misplaced circumstance and the message they do send
Which will allow for another chance in the shadow of a friend
Somewhere maybe far away
Or just beyond the rise
I'll find the key to yesterday
And sort the truth from lies
Then I'll know I did belong
And perhaps reverse the trend
There's no way I can be wrong
In the shadow of a friend
Somewhere maybe far away or in retrospect
I'll find the key to yesterday and maybe I'll connect
All the dots and broken lines upon which my dreams depend
For, when I do, my life refines in the shadow of a friend
Somewhere maybe far away
Or as each line is penned
I'll find the key to yesterday
To make the memories end
Then, at last, I'll finally say
That I'll be glad to spend
Just a moment or two to stay
In the shadow of a friend
Somewhere maybe far away or in a future passed
I'll find the key to yesterday and find myself at last
Where any trail I choose to roam shall neither break nor bend
Until I make it safely home in the shadow of a friend
