ROSARY
(T. Beechey)
It's a party night at the local bar
People come from near and far
To hear the band and sing along
Cause every song is a favorite song
The music's fast, the beat is loud
Just perfect for this kind of crowd
Everybody's in the prime of youth
Except for a girl in the corner booth
Yes, one girl always sits alone
Won't talk to no one, don't answer her phone
Adrift in a world of myth or meth
And she whispers the rosary under her breath
I've seen her here at least twice a week
And I wondered about the tear on her cheek
"She always cries," the bartender goes,
"It's cause she's drunk, I suppose."
I always thought there was something more
On account of the ring that she always wore
And yet she's always here alone
Where was the love to call her own?
One girl always sits alone
Her face to the wall, so her smile's not shown
I heard somewhere that her name was Beth
And she whispers the rosary under her breath
I never asked her where she lived
If I did, I'm sure that she would give
A fake address or none at all
And turn back again to the wall
She'd rather not have company
And yet it's rather plain to see
That she needs somebody by her side
I wonder why nobody's tried...
That one girl always sits alone
The only things about her known
On her left hand is a tattoo --- "Seth"
And she whispers the rosary under her breath
It's a party night once again
A different band cranks up at ten
Startin' off with ZZ Top's "La Grange"
But something's different, something's changed
I glance at an empty corner booth
The bartender tells me the awful truth
Now there's a tear upon my cheek
And no more answers left to seek
The one girl no longer sits alone
Her struggle's over, her spirit's flown
And, to make sure she finds her peace in death
I'll whisper the rosary under my breath
