LIFT ME UP
(T. Beechey)
I once knew a little lady, she made her home everywhere
She'd share her tale with everyone; when she was done, nobody cared
And there was also a kindly fellow,he'd tell his tale anyplace
The human race just passed him by,but still he'd try to find his space
Lift me up to where you've fallen
That's all I have and nothing less
Yesterday's tomorrow's reminder
To find what others already guessed
The lady, once she had a gift, but she drifted through and beyond
Wandering past expectations till even patience hid its wand
The fellow bore the faded memories of pleas unanswered and unheard
And words no longer bore a meaning so,in between the lines,he stirred
They met one day just in passing, a flash rekindled in their eyes
They realized that each was holding a golden key to paradise
Nothing ever had to be spoken, but each awoke to the fact
A pact existed deep within and what had been now shrank in size
Lift me up to where you've fallen
That's all I have and nothing less
Yesterday's tomorrow's reminder
To find what others already guessed
The two became a single soul, their roles were now intertwined
You'd never find one without the other, love in all its beauty shined
Gazing behind, the sun was brighter and the night no longer echoed dim
And a hymn replaced every tale...until the time grew very slim
For fifty-seven years and a day, they seemed anew with each gaze
But fate, she plays a heartless game --- there's no blame, but evereyone pays
As the days dwindled by seconds, she beckoned him to her bed
Then she said the very words that she had heard so long ago read...
"Lift me up to where you've fallen
That's all I have and nothing less
Yesterday's tomorrow's reminder
To find what others already guessed"
