MY SHELL
(T. Beechey)
Hello and welcome to my shell! How 'bout those curtains? Aren't they swell?
And the carpets and drapes, check out those rugs! Don't worry 'bout critters,I sprayed for bugs
Look at the paintings on the wall! Here's my books, yes I've read them all
Over and over and over again and here is my trusty writing pen!
Hello and welcome to my shell! Come on in and sit a spell
Do you like the place? I think it's nice and you really can't beat the price!
Just a couple of ships, but I don't mind --- the "relation" and "friend" and "companion" kinds
But no big deal,in fact,it's great! I can stay up until it's late!
Hello and welcome to my shell! Don't leave yet! Don't make me yell!
Come on back and stay a while,it's been so long since I've seen a smile
You say there's something you must do? Can't it wait for a moment or two?
Well,if you must I'll say goodbye,but please come back or,at least,try
Hello and welcome to my shell,I'm all alone in this living hell
Just staring at the same four walls where nobody stays, nobody calls
I have everything in story and song, but I'd trade it all just to belong
Hey,you there! Got something to sell? Hello and welcome to my shell!
Hey, I loved this one a lot. Take a look at my "loneliness" folder in my profile if you want...
This poem reminds me a lot about myself and wat loneliness can do to you. The way I'd interpret this poem is how human beings try their best to "advertise" themselves to the outside world. When one sees that "business isn't going so well," sometimes all one can ever feel is a downward negative/degrading spiral altho' at other times that's not the case. Other times you just keep on advertizing 'till you find someone. Just know that you're not the only one who's alone in the world. I am one in a way 2! Anyways, great poem!
