THE LYRICIST'S LAMENT

At one time,he lived in a palace of gold

His future was set with riches untold

And he struck a pose that was both bold

And fitter

But the fabric of time began to unfold

Now he rarely has two pennies to hold

But never has his spirit ever grown cold

Or bitter

His life would have rivaled any man's

Every night spent with groupies with tans

It's a shame a career sometimes only spans

A one-hitter

Now he eats his meals from old tin cans

But his mind is focused on his plans

To reclaim his fame and all his fans

And glitter

All he needs is a lucky break

Just another hit, then he can stake

His claim to his dream and not lie awake

As a sitter

He isn't sure just what path to take

But he knows what mistakes not to make

To erase the label, for his own sake

Of a "quitter"

Cause he never gave up,just got passed by

Society turned toward him a blinded eye

And cast him aside, leaving him to lie

As a critter

But now he feels his time is nigh

And all he asks is for another try

Before comes his time to crumble and die

Like litter
