THE NEXT DAY
(T. Beechey)
I seem to recall what never occurred
That I gave my all and pledged my word
To a faceless name
Who ventured astray
And the pain never came until the next day
I once had a dream while I was awake
That I stitched each seam which was set to break
For all of those
Who left me to pay
And the hurt never rose until the next day
When the next day arrived
I wanted to hide
Then I felt revived
So I ran outside
So I'd feel the heat
Of each sunlight ray
And I yearned to greet
The following day
Right here and now in a memory
We exchanged a vow for eternity
But no promise was kept
There was nothing to say
And I never wept until the next day
Right next door,a world apart
I tried once more to reveal my heart
She made it clear
That I couldn't stay
And I shed not a tear until the next day
When the next day arrived
I held on tight
And somehow I thrived
Everything was all right
And I realized
It would all be okay
So I claimed as a prize
The following day
In a faraway land just around the bend
I extended my hand out toward a friend
But he turned aside
Then he walked away
And I never cried until the next day
Many days passed just a second ago
...no,it wasn't that fast,it was just that slow
The best friend I had
Could no longer play
And I didn't feel sad until the next day
When the next day arrived
I wasn't prepared
And yet I survived
And somehow I dared
To see it through
From the blue to the gray
And even into
The following day
