LEGEND'S LAMENT

LEGEND'S LAMENT

(T. Beechey)

He remembers the nights, the cross-country flights, the parties and the girls

He still hears the crowds roaring loud as he sat atop the world

He took his shot, got what he got,yet still his hunger burns

But it's too late and he must wait as others take their turns

He's still living out his dream but now he's wide awake

And no longer does it seem worth the effort to make

He's reached his peak, now it's all a weak attempt to stay in tune

He's still living out his dream but he woke up way too soon

He had his time when he was in his prime and he savored every drop

Going round and round from town to town,he never thought it would stop

It was a shock to him when the lights went dim and the crowds began to fade

But he didn't learn and thought they'd return the longer that he stayed

He's still living out his dream but now he's wide awake

And no longer does it seem worth the effort to make

He's reached his peak, now it's all a weak attempt to stay in tune

He's still living out his dream but he woke up way too soon

Yes,he made his mark and now in a dark secluded spot somewhere

He recalls the past, how he thought it would last and all the fun back there

Someplace in his mind,he seeks to find the key to way back when

To reclaim his fame and make his name worth mentioning again

He's still living out his dream but now he's wide awake

And no longer does it seem worth the effort to make

He's reached his peak, now it's all a weak attempt to stay in tune

He's still living out his dream but he woke up way too soon
