Upon Hearing Music

PEACEMAKER. "DONA NOBIS PACEM."
Those who bring Peace
are of pure and humble heart,
for Peace is their fond, strong, highest quest
of Hopes that are the ablest
to calm the tyrant and pierce war's heart,
and with saving words true Peace impart.

ANTHEM TO THE PEACEMAKER

Here in our hearts which ardently are seeking,
wherein. . . . . live the Dreams of Humankind --
living for Peace,
working and praying for Peace --
for God's One, True Peace to fill precious earth,
every heart and mind.
( not mere hope in vain, [... pacem //men's voices\\ ] ,
earnest and pure praying, [... pacem //women's voices\\ ],)
from all the World's hearts: hoping, true, obedient, in trust:

" Come, O come, sweet Peace --
so longed for and sought for, prayed for --
make Your Dominion God's precious earth!
Come and fill earth's praying hearts --
hearts grown sad from numbing wars! "

"Dona Nobis Pacem", rings out forever from them:
||: "Dona... Nobis...
[1st time, basses: Dona Nobis.....Pacem(unis.) ]
[2d time, basses, altos: Dona Nobis...{Pacem(unis.)}]
Dona... Nobis...! Dona... Nobis...! [All, spoken quietly, intense]
[All: ] [Exultant! ] Dona Nobis Pacem!" :||

Grown from the heart
of Love's humblest child,
earth's Peacemaker.

. . . . . . . [ extended chorus ] . . . . . . . .
Whose prayers burn like sweet, holy incense,
consecrate Earth's teeming throng;
" Dona Nobis ..., Dona Nobis Pacem!
God grant us Peace!
God grant us Peace!
God grant us Peace! "
Only Christ, Who is the Prince of Peace
can calm the heart of war's awful beast.

Author's Notes/Comments:

I was just using my solitude to recharge my libido, when I heard Mascagni's work. This flowed from it.
