Take Off Those Training Wheels

They'd assuaged our fears at dawn

And walked sleepily through the day;

Held our hands as we lay forlorn,

To keep this world at bay.

They were our Gods before we walked,

And rocks before we knew.

We reveled in the way they talked,

And took their words as true.

But now we've left the nest

And walk upon our own,

And they're approaching rest

Beyond from what they've known.

It's scary when it's near;

The end we've come to know.

But we can't help their fear

As they did long ago.

The fall from grace is steep

And our idols are dying slow.

And as they're gone we'll weep

For what we did not show.
