"I Wonder"

When the stars are shining bright

and the air is as cool as can be.

I sit on the beach and I wonder

as I look out onto the calm sea.

The cool wind blows through the air

and blows the sand so light.

As the large moon above the sea

makes the sky so bright.

I wonder why the stars shine bright

and why the moon is round.

And why the sand is so cool

as I dig my feet into the ground.

I wonder why the water sways

but looks as if it's glass.

And why you cannot see the wind

as it blows so swiftly through the grass.

I wonder why the water's blue

or why the fish should swim.

Or why the squirrels jump so quickly

as they leap from limb to limb.

I wonder why the moon rises up

once the sun goes down.

And why when someones heart is broken

they must always show a frown.

I wonder why the birds will sing

when the sun is in the sky.

And why the crickets chirp their song

once the moon is high.

I wonder why the nights are calm

and everyone must sleep.

For the night is the most glorious thing

that everyone should keep.

So as I sit here on the beach

and I wonder why.

The moon will still shine

in that star filled sky.

Some may wonder why it rains

and why that dark cloud thunders.

But what one learns from this poem

is the world is full of wonders!
