Promises I Make

If you can trust me
I will make you this promise
I will not break
I will not fail
Can you believe in me
Like I know you have before
Take this chance
We are running out of time

Why can't you see
I am right here waiting
Pleading with hope
That soon you would change your mind
What do you see in her
That I can't compare to

I have known you
Ever since we were children
Chasing after you
Running like water
Skinning our knees
Now I am bandaging
This broken heart
You've left for me
This empty playground
With so many memories
A ordeal I don't want to face
Alone

This year is almost over
And soon we will be heading our separate ways
I knew I shouldn't get my hopes up
But you don't seem to understand
This underlining desire
I wish you would open your eyes to
