They heard it on the news
They saw it on the radio
The day burned red
And at night it rained.
The rain came slow at first
The children played
And the ground cooled
And then it came
People were thrown
Buildings tumbled
The glass shattered
And their minds crumbled.
The earth was empty
There was nothing
There were no animals.
There were two people
And the people talked
They had nothing
They had each other
They had everything
Together they struggled
And together they lived
When it rained they
Huddled close. To each other
So much was lost
They could never get it back
A large price to pay
But it was worth it
They had found what
No others before them had
They were pioneers, renegades…
They loved one another.
And they had children
And their family grew
Their children died
But not them.
They were wise
And taught their children much
But their children stopped listening
They wanted to run their own lives
And the lovers watched
As the children took over the world
Conquered it.
And they were proud.
But the children were violent
They were greedy
The lovers could not control them
They would not listen to wisdom
The earth got mad
At the lovers children.
It took away the lovers family
And there was nothing
First the heat, then the rain
And everyone crumbled
The lovers cleared away the rubble
And did what lovers do.
