Monster

You feet drags across the ground.
Your heavy breathing the only sound.
Your face covered in sweat.
Your mind filled with dread.

Carrying burdens beyond belief,
the pain somehow a relief.
Your body is shaking,
You're tired of faking.

You bare your back
for everyone to see
blood running down your back
evidence of your effortless flee

The monster growls in the distance,
promising to find you before dawn.
Scared you stumble across the ground
trying to ignore the haunting sound.

Panic grips your heart
Fear cripples your mind
Sorrow fills your soul
Pain is you being

How come no one is here?
Are they trying to stay clear?
Avoiding the thoughts they know you have?
Accepting you are too far to save?

You break down a door to hide away
begging anyone who hears to stay.
Like ghosts, soundless, soulless
they disappear, leaving you homeless.

The monster lurks closer
you fearfully shut your eyes
'open your eyes' comes the soft whisper
you tearfully open your eyes

face to face

you stare

One question remains

How can you outrun yourself?
