Banner

Oh say can you see

That we're fucked

By the dawn's early light

This is crap

What so proudly we hailed

At cabs, but got passed because of our looks

At the twilight's last gleaming

Sunset, in places we don't remember being

Whose broad stripes and bright stars

Reminded us of what was wrong and what was right

THrough the perilous fight

With our so called enemies

O'er the ramparts we watches

As normalcy became a fallacy, and people

Were so gallantly streaming

Through the streets in celebration

The bombs bursting in air

Flinging shrapnel into the flesh of the innocent

Gave proof through the night

That happiness can turn to terror in an instant

That our flag was stil there

Mocking the surviors

Oh, say does that star pangled banner yet wave

At the poor, wishing them good luck in an uphill battle

O'er the land of the free

To be ignorant, unknowing of the outside world

And the home of the brave

Soldiers, who serve our country

Only to be chewed up, spit out, and left to beg in the streets

Author's Notes/Comments:

I gave myself a prompt of, "Make a poem with something easily recognized within it." This ended up being what I came up with. Of course I wrote it in a bar, and I don't remember if I was drinking.
