Haven’t come across this heretofore

Sometimes I come across a word as I'm reading

I'll be at a loss, a dictionary I'll be needing

I could check the one I have, but it's an old edition

I'm more comfortable going online to get the definition

The other day I looked up the word 'heretofore'

Was the online definition right? I'm not so sure

It was defined as 'before now'

I'd like to know how they came up with that definition, how?

How could the word 'heretofore'

Be defined as what came before?

What's wrong with them, holy cow!

It's what's happening right here, right now!

I may not know much, but one thing is clear

At least I know what's the current year

They should change the definition of 'heretofore'

It's not 'before now', it's now 'here, '2 4!'
