Speck (Untitled -- 5.27.2004)

I am nothing but a speck

   in this big, superficial country.

I will never get noticed when

   put among the cheerleaders

and the pretty ones of high school.

I will never be noticed for

   my talents, just my looks.

I will never go down in some

   god-damned book

   for my accomplishments.

I will always be unnoticed,

   just like I am here

   in some prison that we

   call America.

Some prison where beauty

is picked over brains and attitudes.

...And the media keeps shoving this

   down our throats.

   "You need clear skin!"

   "You need to lose weight!"

"You need to follow us or you won't get laid!"

We are told to accept this.

"Looks get you everywhere" in a

   superficial country.

We have the constant pressure of those

high-schoolers who listen to the media.

We are dubbed freak, nerd, loser

   for

   thinking on our own.

I know my tiny voice won't accomplish much

   (or so i'm told)

   but, at least

   I can try.

A tiny speck like me,

   dubbed a freak,

   may be able to

   make a difference...

exploid the media and it's followers,

   exploid the media's father,

   America.
