love thy neighbour

Walking down my street

I see a darkened house

Never seen anybody going in or out

Does anybody live there

That i start to doubt

After walking past this house

Once or twice a week

I openened up the letter box

Had to take a peek

Blue bottles come flooding out

Something really reaks

Noticing letters piled up on the floor

If someone was living here

They are not living anymore

The police turn up

Bust down the door

They find a poor old lady

Laying on the kitchen floor

Then i start to wonder

How long she's been there for

If you have a neighbour in their latter days

Please go and check on them

Ensure they are well and safe

Please go knock on the door

Tomorrow might be too late

Love thy neighbour was written to try and highlight how easy it is to forget the old lady/man who lives down the road.

hundreds of ederly people die each year from exposure to cold and from starvation alone in their homes without anyone knowing.
