We live in hope.
But most of those hopes are dashed
On the rocks of reality.
They crumble and fall
Into a lifetime of lost dreams.
Washed away in a sea of disappointment,
Disenchantment and banality.
And yet, we still go on,
Living in hope.
Author's Notes/Comments:
I wrote this on receiving a rejection letter from a magazine, who occasionally include a poem in their publication. They enjoyed reading my work, they said, but they already had a backlog of other poems. Very rarely do I attempt any sort of publication, for this reason. It's too confidence sapping. No idea why I did it this time!!
