The tennis player knelt
Before her big match.
The door to success
Was hers to unlatch.
She doesn’t really talk
To the man upstairs,
But to succeed in life
She must indulge in prayer.
Not knowing what to say,
The girl opens her mouth.
She hopes for the best,
And these words come out.
Lord, I am just a young girl
Who always tries her best.
But today is a today
I’ll be put to the test.
Forgive me for my sins.
Forgive others too.
I need your help today.
I put my trust in you.
I never ask for much.
I never have the need,
But I’m asking you, dear Lord,
Help me to succeed.
The girl paused and thought
How her prayer should end.
And finally she said
In your name, AMEN.
She got up off her knees,
And gathered up her things.
She heard the crowd outside.
She was living out her dream.
She took a deep breath,
And heaved a big sigh.
She headed for the door
With her head held high.
Believing in herself,
Believing she could win,
She stepped onto the court
With confidence from within.
Throughout the whole match,
She played her heart out.
She felt good about herself.
There wasn’t any doubt.
She won the match that day,
And said to God above,
Thank you so much, dear Lord,
I give you all my love.
The girl had learned a lesson.
Bible versus are so true.
Philippians four thirteen
Tells you what you have to do.
I can do all things through
Christ which strengthens me.
That’s all you have to know,
And all you have to be.
So if ever in doubt.
If ever in need.
Just remember that verse
And you will succeed.
