Prayer at School
Lord,
I pray to you here at school
Where praying is against the rule.
Back in the day, when my teachers were young,
Praying was legal and praying was fun.
They would pray everyday.
Everyday they would pray.
Today we can't even say
The Lord's Prayer at a football game.
It's unlawful, it's unfair
For us Christians who live off prayer.
We pray as much as we can,
But praying is hard, now that praying is banned.
I know we can pray at church or at home.
We can pray in the car when we set out to roam.
It's just not the same, if you can't pray in school.
"No praying over the loud speaker," that's the rule.
You have to pray at a football game.
You have to pray everyone will behave.
In band, we pray the Lord's Prayer.
We pray for people who do not care.
We also pray in basketball;
That no one will get hurt or fall.
Even in individual sports we pray,
Like tennis and golf before we play.
So, dear Lord, I make this plea.
Please, help the world so it can see.
Even if we break the rule,
Prayer should be a part of school.
