In a hospital room, a pretty woman crying, a scared man recording and a nurse happily dressing a baby with a sky blue tie. If my grandmother comes one day and tells that story, you’ll never think that that’s a lie. My uncle is the type of person who’s always partying, always drinking, always single and always “young”. Just like that one friend who seems to have no other purpose than enjoying life. One day, if you’re lucky, you’ll see him sitting in his couch by the window, reading poetry or the news, with a strong, black coffee in his hand. It doesn’t matter where he is, parties, weddings, the shower, you’ll never live long enough in order to see him without a tie, nor wearing a simple one. He always wears vivid colors, the ones that will never be diluted with white so that they look pastel nor are them darkened with black. Clearly, from a distance, you’ll see him wearing RED, the color of passionate love, danger, anger and adventure. The first color after black and white. As drunk and exotic as he is, the only red you’ll se him with is red wine. That’s certainly a red you’ll see him wearing everyday before bed. YELLOW, attention, happiness, madness. As intriguing to the eye as it is, it seems to everyone that he wears it to pop and make you stare. PINK, tenderness, kindness, empathy, not the kind of pastel pink you’ll imagine, NEON PINK, playful, strength, immature, silly, feeling like he’s abandoning his adult responsibilities just for wearing this color. He’s personality goes along when he wears BLUE, authority, ethereal, infinity, just as the sky and just as possessive and materialistic as the color GREEN. The purpose of his weird colored ties was not getting attention, for that I’m sure. Always with a beer, tequila or wine in hand, dancing and singing to his old rock songs (very badly I may say), he’s the type of person who catches your eye because of his entire being. If you were his neighbor, you would think he’s part of some satanic cult and every time he starts singing you would spread sanctified water all over the place. And in special occasions, his ties also get pretty quite special. Wine in new year, hearts in valentines, underwear on father’s day, flowers on spring, presents in birthdays, and obviously as soon as the Christmas festivities start to arrive, the Christmas trees, snowmen, Santa and Christmas lights, start to appear in his ties. I admire him because he just doesn’t care about what other people have to say.
