High upon the barn roof
three friends began to sing
was early in the morning
and soon the rafters rang
there was Fred and Bob
and Squaky
and they sang with all their might
they clucked and crowed and
jumped abour
and did the thing up right
They fluffed up all their feathers
their voices rose high above the trees
it carried oer the tree tops
as they tried their best to please
The little red hen came walking by
looking for a worm
and the three swains began to serenade
and soon it was her turn
she hopped upon a fence post
and did a little jig
she clucked a happy little tune
which woke up the farmers pig
The pig woke up his mother
looking for some food
his mother pulled his curly tail
and told him he was rude
soon the old milk cow woke up
and her calf began to bawl
for he couldn't get to his Momma
for he was in a different stall
And then the kittens all woke up
for they were sleeping in the hay
and they couldn't find old Momma cat
for she'd gone to find some breakfast
real early in the day
the old horse woke up and neighed
when he opened their eyes
the sheep out in the pasture
began to baa and cry
And way down in the meadow
a field mouse stretched and yawned
as he peeked out of his little hole
to find it almost dawn
The dog barked upon the back porch
to start a brand new day
to wake the farmer and his wife
and get them on their way
all because three rooster friends
got upon the barn
and woke up the whole darn country side
in wild and fierce alarm
A drop or two of strong drink
made them sing just right
for the roosters on the roof top
were just a little tight
Roosters on the roof top
singing wild and free
clucking to all the old hens
and I think to you and me
