A Florida day
heavenly blue sky
white fluffy clouds
floating by like marshmallows
and teee tops gently waving
in the summer breeze
butterflies flit by and land on yellow
lantana
outside my window
somewhere near by
a small green frog gently calls for rain
and a grey Florida lizard
exercises his orange throat as he tries
to attract a mate
pink hibiscus bloom and white day lilies
line the fence and a humming bird
drinks from the feeder
while hanging suspended in the air
bright sunshine kisses the earth
and streams through the windows
and my room is illuminated in brillience
Outside in the street, the ice cream truck
goes slowly by, playing "old MacDonalds Farm"
and kids are running from
every direction to catch him
It is still early enough
that a cup of hot tea on the back porch
is a treat
Outside my window, Tom Tom my cat
rolls himself in a small pile of sugar sand
and gingerly watches a blue jay
as he bathes in the bird bath
Across the street, my neighbor
is mowing his lawn
and the smell of new mown grass is sweet
to my nostrals
and down the street, the smell of
fresh baked bread drifts by
Outside my window
dark grey clouds float by
the wind from the gulf, pushing
them along
thunder rumbles
and a summer shower is imminent
the roses and gardenias wait patiently
thirsty for the first drops of rain
the crape myrtles putside my window,
wait too
the ducks in the pond down the street
are turning summersaults in the water
and dragon flies are hurridly scrambling
from lily pad to lily pad
a keen streak of lightning
zig zags down the sky
making children scurry in doors
now the rain is coming down
hard and straight and puddles
are standing in the yard
the stepping stones in the back yard
are steaming from the moist heat
and the mourning doves
are hovering near the corner of the fence
seeking cover underneath
the Confederate Jasmine
cars are going slowly down the street
splashing water as they go
and soggy Spanish moss droops
from the oak trees
A typical Florida day
and in five minutes the sun will shine again
and time goes by
just another summer day in my Florida
my mother land
and I would not change it
no never
It is my home
and the sand in my shoes is deep
I love you, Florida
