They talked of getting married in the spring
and all the pros and cons
they wondered what their folks would say
should they get married in a church
or on the back yard lawn
She wondered 'bout a wedding dress
he considered a long tailed fancy tux
they talked of all the flowers and the food
and thought of all the fuss
They talked about a house in town
as they snuggled neath
a bright November moon
they thought of all the
things that must be done
but still it couldn't come to soon
Should she have a brides maid
and who would be his best man
who could they get that could walk that far
and carry the wedding band
And they sat out on the old park bench
their faces lined in smiles
for they knew they would start a big comotion
that would last for quite a while
They wondered some about the wheel chair
and they knew they'ed have to buid a ramp
and build a rail beside it
for when the days were wet or damp
As they sat there a dreaming
he thought to nap awhile
and whhile they sat there arm in arm
she began to smile
For she thought of so many things
like, to bad they hadn't met
some seventy years ago
for all the years they would have had together
and all the happiness that their children would have brought
but here they both were living now
in the autumn of their life
but still there would be much happiness
for they'ed be man and wife
And as they walked back to the nursing home
and through the big cast iron gate
they thought that they would have to do it soon
for now they'ed sealed their fate
And they told the charge nurse at the desk
said that they were getting married
and they just couldn't wait
The nurse looked up with much surprise
and then she said 'that's great'
it was going to be a joyful thing
for both were in a state
for old Robert was ninety years of age
and Maud was eighty eight
