My great grand ma, she loved to fish
or so the story goes
but she never caught a blessed thing
and never messed up her clothes
She'd go a fishing every day
with pole and bait and such
I don't know how she'd bait the hook
for worms, she wouldn't touch
She was a pretty little maid
and fancy were her clothes
she had a silly giggle
but she never lacked for beau's
One day when she sat on the bank
the day was hot and muggy
along came this handsome man
with a fancy horse and buggy
He stopped the carriage with a skid
and gently tipped his hat
and ask if he could rest awhile
and that is how they met
He sat with her a long long time
so she wouldn't be alone
and when the evening came along
'he took my grand ma home
This man he came to call lot's more
and they always went a fishing
but one day her Poppa came along
and cought them down there kissing
And so you see, the story goes
there was soon to be a marriage
all because a man came by
with a fancy horse and carriage
But grand ma said she didn't care
that husbands were just fine
especially if they'ed fish with her
and help her with her line
My grand ma and grand pa
they lived lived together fifty years
they lived on fish and grits and love
and raised seven little dears
And grand ma always said
that she'd always been a wishin'
to meet a man with handsome looks
and one who'd take her fishing
