Way down in the deep dark swamp
is a place called Bugger Hollow
and there's a big deep dark muddy hole
where the alligators wallow
be careful if you chance to go
down where the panthers scream
for you may not get out of there alive
if you know just what I mean
for the woods are dark and tangled well
and the vines grow wild and thick
and you don't know what might be lurking
from behind the trees
that might reach out and grab you quick
They say old Sally lives down there
some where near that old bog
with and old hound dog, a bunch of coons
and a big old one eyed hog
Some folks say that she's a witch
and she'll hang you on a rack
for many a man went out to see
and as many, never did come back
You can hear her laugh sometimes at night
but it sounds more like a moan
and if you're there and if you think you hear her
you best be getting home
It's hot and misty there in the night
and the whippoorwill whimpers low
and even creatures of the night
know's where not to go
and when the moon is high and shining bright
and tree limbs blow and bend
beware the one who walks at night
for she'll snatch you, if she can
thornes and vines will grab you as you walk
and twist 'round your arms and legs
and hold you till Sally comes
and it does no good to beg
you might see black lizards sitting in the trees
their long red necks just gleaming
you might hear noises in the night
like some one in there screaming
I'll give you sound advice, my friend
don't go at night to Bugger Hollow
for theres things that live in them there woods
that might make you run and holler
Now be careful of 'the go away holes'
for it feels so good
as mud oose's through your toes
but it will suck you down where you won't be found
and no one will ever know
some more advice, I'll give to you
if old Sally comes a calling
she will snatch you down into the swamp
and leave you down there bawling
we will here you bawl for just a while
and then things will all go quiet
and not a word of you, will ere be heard
so please my friend, don't try it
I know a place, I don't go there
and it's called Bugger Holler
and I've heard some say
don't go that way
where the alligators wallow
