He was just an old time soldier
that had served in world war two
his beard was white and frizzled
his eyes were dimly blue
He walked now with a little limp
and most days he used a cane
but if his country needed him
he'd go fight the war again
His jacket was an old fatigue
spotted green and brown
he somehow still fit in it
though his tummy was now a tad more round
He'd sit there on the Court House bench
and he'd tell a tale or two
with all his old time buddies
which now numbered just a few
They'ed tell their old time stories
'bout the hero's of the war
and each of them knew the others tale
for they'ed heard them all before
They started out, Did I tell you about
or, Do you remember when
and when they each were finished
they'ed tell them all again
For there wasn't much to keep them happy
for they were old and bent in years
and sometimes the tales they told each other
made them all break out in tears
Today was kind of special tho
for they had the big parade
for they got to ride upon the float
and wave flags the children made
They stood at stiff attention
when the grand old flag went by
and when they sang the National Anthem
there were tears in every eye
For they remembered fallen hero's
who gave the highest sacrofice
they now lay buried in a foreigh land
for foreignors who didn't like us
they had gave away their life
And he couldn't understand it
for them, our young men fought and died
shed our blood for those who hate us
and they went on home to glory
wrapped up in our countries pride
He was just an old time soldier
who had out lived his time
and now he sat forgotten
in a world time left behind
