He was a Continental Soldier
and he came from Boston town
he was bold and tall and lanky
the finest looking man around
He spoke the tongue of England
and his mind was keen and sharp
he had continental manners
but a soft and tender heart
He was Washington's Aide-De-Camp
sending orders left and right
sometimes he sent them in the day
sometimes he rode with them at night
He rode a strong and sturdy bay
and he sat his horse real well
and what a picture he did make
as he rode through plain and swell
With each parade that Boston had
he rode with Washington
and silly girls would peek and giggle
for he seemed a favorite one
There had been a big tea party
and they dumped all Englands tea
and they blamed it on the Indians
as they fought to set us free
He had fought the English red coats
near the town of Surrey Pass
and afterwards, he found there wandering
a pure and genteel lass
She sat forlorn and crying near the road
so he sought to soothe her plight
and he ask her , what was it thar he could do
to try and make things right
She told him that her home was gone
burned by the English foe
her Ma was dead, her pa been killed
and she had no place to go
He thought to contact relatives
he would do it as a friend
but when she bathed and got cleaned up
she was brown eyed, cute and slim
She had a winning pretty smile
and cheeks of cream and pink
a waist that he could span with just his hands
and soft brown hair that curled and kinked
And then he thought to keep her
they'ed marry in the Spring
but first he'd have to ask her
and he'd have to buy a ring
And she did except his offer
for he seemed so kind and dear
and with him always at her side
she had naught to fear
And so we finally won the war
and the Red Coats left by sea
and Washington married them next day
and oh, they seemed so happy
Now they live up there in Boston Town
in a white house near the quay
a happy family numbering four
and here they plan to stay
When he ask's her if she's happy, she answers, 'Yes I am"
and he is too, and so he told her
so the story ends now of a pretty girl
and her Continental Soldier
