REBECCA

Rebecca stood at the door of her tent

and shaded her eyes from the sun

for many a year had come and gone

and she pondered on what she'd done

T'was a long long time since she'd heard from him

and she wondered, where all had he gone

and she remembered the sin that she had done

against Easu, her first born son

Fetch me a kid from out of the flock

and I'll make savory meat for your dad

and he'll give you the holy blessing then

for you are my strong handsome lad

And Jacob had done her bidding well

and had covered his arms with the hide

so he carried the meat fto his father so blind

his blessing to get 'fore he died

And Jacob who was blind had said to himself

It's Easu, for he smells of the fields and the air

so he gave his blessing to Jacob that day

and betrayed his first born there

Then she saw the look on Easu's face

and he cried, Father, what have you done

and she saw the tears stream from Jacob's eyes

for he'd cast aside his favorite son

Then Jacob had fled to his mothers land

to Labon, his mothers kin

and he'd worked for Labons two daughters

for twenty one years

for Leah and Rebecca and a thousand sheep in the pen

Now word had been sent, Jacob was coming home

so she shaded her eyes to see

and she trembled a little and wondered some

just what in the world would be

Now the dust rose high up in the sky

'and from far o'er the mountain's rim

came caravans and camels and hundreds of people

could all of this belong to him

Ownward the came and onward they came

and soon she could make out his face

and Easu traveled now by Jacob's side

the first son now in second place

Now she saw jacob turn and look at her

and a smile carressed his lip

and he pulled her deep unto his heart

with strong arms 'round waist and hip

And now she clutched him to her breast

her most beloved son

now for twenty five years, she'd awaited this day

to ask forgiveness for what she'd done

There were cattle and horses and camels and sheep

and the goats and the dogs ran wild

and on jeweled litters, wove with golden thread

rode two beautiful women in linen robes

and both of them were with child

Oh my son, Oh my son, she cried aloud

as she carressed his face and his hair

and he laughed and bowed to her with a happy face

as little children ran every where

And when they had pitched there tents that night

down in  the valley with care

to Rebecca it looked like a city so fine

and she fell to her knees in prayer

Now the night was cold and the wind was chill

but no one seemed to mind

For Isaac's family was together again

together this day, for all time
