Today I saw the face of God

oh not in flesh and bone

I saw Him in the world He made

this old familier one

I saw Him in my Mother eye

when I happened to stop by

I saw it in her loving smile

and in her cherry, Hi

I saw Him in her wrinkled hands

as she poured two cups of tea

and as I remembered all the good things

she'd always done for me

I saw Him in a rainbow bright

just past the noon day rain

i've seen Him in the mountain peaks

and in the desert plain

I've seen Him in a suset

of blue and golden hues

I've seen Him in the sunset

and in the misty dew

I've seen Him in the sparkling stars

up in the night time sky

I've seen Him in the moon and sun

that float up there so high

I've seen Him in a babbling brook

that flows past woods and trees

I've seen Him in the flowers that bloom

out in the gentle breeze

I've seen Him in the moss hung oaks

that grow across the land

I've seen Him in the snakes that crawl

across the blistering sand

I see him in a mountain lion

ferocious and so grand

and in the tiny gentle fawn

that eats out of my hand

I've seen Him in the blinding snow

oh such a lovely thing

and in the green leaves that grow

when Spring returns again

I see Him in a lady bug

that crawls out in the grass

and in the laughing children

as they go off to school and class

I've seen His face most every where

each time I look around

I see Him in the eagle

as he soars the sky so grand

Today I saw the face of God

on such a glorious sight

today I feel His awesome love

and know His awesome might

I've seen Him a waterfall

as it descends into a glen

but most of all I've seen Him

in the beauty of a friend

For friendship is a sacred thing

sometimes old and sometimes new

but I believe I've seen my Jesus best

in the friend that I call YOU
