WE WILL PRESS ON
BY AKOL MEYAN KUOL
Our struggle to create a just new Sudan,
Will go on,
Our struggle will go on,
Till we make sure all Sudanese are one,
This is what every Sudanese,
Should tell his daughter or son,
Till we make sure we all are at ease.
We will press on,
We will do what can be done,
To make all people equal,
Regardless of race, religion,
Culture or region,
All rights should be based on citizenship,
Not on race or religion.
We should not be greedy for wealth or power,
Now is the hour,
We should start to change our way of thinking,
Or behaviour.
Sudan is bigger than us,
Sudan can contain all of us,
Its resources are enough for all of us.
A just, progressive, peaceful Sudan,
Is a responsibility of every Sudanese,
It is a responsibility of Yagoob, Hanan,
Nyalang, Kuku, Adrop, Wani and Chan.
(From the poet's first collection 'The Sun Will be Rising')
