At Apostle John's Death

Night wanes.  The stars have made it beautiful.

The land stirs at the first glimpses of dawn.

Sad tidings I must bear:  the gracious soul

of our Lord's last, living Apostle, John,

was called up to the Heavens, and is gone.

The world will soon commence its mockery,

reminding us that none of them remain.

We did not walk with Christ; watch His blood stain

that cross; or see Him fully resurrected.

Apostle John prepared us for this, lest

the world's effects discourage us.  He said

(and wrote), the Lord told His Apostles, "Blessed

"are all those who have not seen, yet believe."

The world does not admit, nor has expected

such great assurance---ours exclusively

and offered to all who in faith receive

the Gospel that John preached with certainty,

that no force can inhibit or restrain,

despite this sad fact---old man John is dead.
