Hidden Beneath a Smile
The sky doesn’t seem so bright tonight
It’s overcast, just like my mind
Pounding like the rain on the pavement
Emotions run wild in my head
Puddles under my eyes keep growing
Wearing a smile to hide this pain
Hidden is this display of torture
When people are around to see
This façade crumbles when alone
Can’t hide from the face in the mirror
Eyes tell the secrets never told
Clear as day in this image of strength
Weakness never shown burns bright
Tears not cried flow down smoothly
The demons are released from their cage
For only moments until locked back up
Tears stop and it’s time to smile again.
