My cat sits
In open window
Sniffing air
Perched like
Great sphinx
Great lion
And protector...

My cat roams
Wild in room
Running down prey
In private Serengeti
Bringing down antelope

And other wild beasts.
He climbs trees
Purring and cleaning
Bathed in moonlight
Teasing silly dogs
Mockingbird on tree limb...

Tonight my cat
Stares down the moon
Rolling over rooftops
eyes of crescent and full
My cat
Is king of night...
