Innocence doesn't last
The dark has come.
All is still.
Seems so peaceful
A small child sleeps in bed
it all seems so innocent
if only the inoocence would last
Seemingly all is safe
then the footsteps begin
the child shudders
takes a deep breath
is there time, the child listens closely
takes a deep breath it's ok
there is time they are still distant
the child gets up, freezes then moves
under the bed the child crawls
Pretend to be asleep
that will keep you safe
the night is so dark and lonely
the child can't wait for morning
The night is over
morning is here, mom comes to wake the child
She can't figure it out
why she can never finds the child in her bed
She doesn't know what the night holds
How innocence doesn't last
the child comes out gives mom a hug
gets ready for the day
the child keeps going on and on
the innocence didn't last
but no one really knows
the terror that comes in the night
the child may be young
but the child already knows that
if someone finds out
life will never be the same
even though the innocence didn't last
the world still turns
the nights still come
the innocence is gone
Eventually it gets out
The threat is no more
but the innocence is gone
it's too late,
the terror is gone only the child knows
the innocence didn't last
