The Dig

Is this all I am?
A lifeless vessel for use
I carry all your burdens
None, which you can win

Simplicity is this generous act
Abuses for kindness that I show
It's fine, take advantage; you're not the first
Just don't complain when you're left to burst

Praise me for how I live
I'll circle the world just to hear my name
Aware of the darkness that follows my actions
A celebration of disasters that always follows

You've tried to think for my own thoughts
A sense of control you attempt to complete
Just wait; I'll sink to beneath this earth
Hide myself from becoming your personal martyr

An insomnia and craze will plaster your sight
A regret to inform of this unholy deed
Too late, the earth has inducted me to live
Comfort I found missing, now pieced in front of me

Of course, I'll be listening with hidden ears
The earth will protect its own
Get your poison away; compelled of greed
The earth clings to me and won't let go

Recognition one day, the crowd waits to see
Exhaustion, the real will finally believe
Come outside, my predictable friend
Bring your shovel and begin to dig
