In horror we gazed,
Upon shattered stone and steel,
The pentagon and once pristine towers,
Are now wounds that will not heal.
Now time is no longer stopped,
There is chaos no more,
Though all it takes are the images,
To shake us to the core.
The fires in our hearts,
Are the only ones that remain,
Burning brightly for lost loved ones,
Whose memories we will sustain.
We also remember the heroes,
Who gave their lives for strangers,
Risking it all to help,
Regardless of the dangers.
Lastly is flight ninety-three,
Whose passengers fought back,
Standing up to their captors,
To stop the terrorist attack.
The sleeping giant has reawakened,
To deliver justice to those who dared,
Not since the seventh of December,
Has its anger been flared.
To those who wish us harm,
We make you this vow,
We will never back down,
You are warned here and now.
We are Americans,
We bleed red, white, and blue,
Not always seeing eye to eye,
But we always see these things through.
