Each day came and went
And each shorter than the last
But each adding into the well.
Drop by drop the well filled
Until he could no longer stand
But had to tread the water.
And so on and on he went
Until he could no longer keep
His head above water.
Here and there his head dipped
And he held his breath awhile
Until he found strength again.
And so on and on he went
Until he could no longer find
Strength to raise his head.
Until at last he gave in and up
And leaned back to rest a little
But came to see he was floating.
Effortless he kept his head up
And again he could breathe calm
Slow and deep as he once had.
Each day came and went
And each shorter than the last
But each adding into the well.
Until one day the top was breached
And he was bathed and drenched
In a Paradise of Forever.
