Euphemism

Nobody would read the word "vivisect"

without imagining something that's not

inherently human. It would chitter,

glimmering from the mucus it lay in;

wriggling its mandibles without sound.

Nor would they see the word "manifest" as

anything less than a command laid down

by the downy crown abreast of his heap,

barred behind laser and lapsing reprieves;

reaching for his good flask beneath the desk.

Maybe "solution", to those of sound mind,

might come off as something less than a threat,

while remaining more than an idle thought

held quietly at the back of the neck,

to avoid contact with what once was blind.

But to anyone, "game" means little more

than a brief excursion from what matters,

what affects the real world, where people live;

a valve to draw the ire from the man,

rather than inflict it on the child.
