A fireplace holds our common laws
Turning them against the air
They tussle amongst the ash and soot
Falling through to waste
The sparks that hold our attention close
Span a moment in our eyes
They ignite the forth and escaping brush
To end their scurrying ways
We watch as all our promise made
Is used as fodder for the force
The refuse had and what remains
Is useless to our course
We all become but nothing less than fortunes in a shell
We redefine our neutral selves to hapless ends of wealth
The laws we made are vigilant
But left without a cause
They turn themselves upon the stake
To draw the fire that we create
And as we see how it all relates
The coals will meet their fall.
