Montauk

I met an old figure in a hole in time

He claimed to be an associate of mine

His face asunder, with shadows cast

An approving man with a foot in the past

On our way we watched as it all transpired

Through blood and haze, the filth and the wire

The hopeless would glow and fall to expire

Supermen would flex then cripple and retire

We expanded and depleted and fell to our knees

Covered our tracks and were rid of the debris

Contact was made and exchanged to enhance

Things were created and made to change stance

All of it for not, things came to a halt

Corpses lay below while the surface was at fault

Man and beast alike were thrown against the wall

Every grey abandoned at the end of it all

I was left in a tunnel of patience and haste

Upon the deck of a ship out of place

My legs had found a home in the floorboards below

I was left without a movement or anywhere to go

He was carelessly vague but the visitor spoke through his sight

He told me to meet him in Philadelphia on a bay made of light.
