“Daddy please don’t go”
Tears in her eyes.
He tries to calm her down,
While getting her ready for day care.
Hugging her before saying goodbye,
Promising to call every night.
He is hoping to be home by the weekend.
He checks his log to see where to pick up the next load.
Has to be in Oklahoma then back to Arkansas.
Then he will shut down for the night.
Counting down the days till he can get a local job.
Already missing his family and it’s only Monday.
His wife calls up, in between classes, to talk about her day so far.
They say their “I love you” before hanging up.
He finishes loading up the cargo and heads out.
No matter how far, every mile, every city…
his family keeps him going strong.
At the end of the day he knows
all roads lead home.
“You are my sunshine, my only sunshine”
Singing to his little girl over the phone.
He doesn’t stop until she falls asleep.
Then he tells his wife goodnight and he loves her.
Shutting down for the night, he checks his log.
He drifts off to sleep, has to head to Illinois tomorrow.
No matter how far, every mile, every city…
his family keeps him going strong.
At the end of the day he knows
all roads lead home.
