Children of the Light

Laughter rang through the stardust as the children of light played. The eternal winds caressed them gently and spoke in soft musical tones and their lives seemed perfect, and they drifted with the stardust fields. From time to time they would pass a planet or moon or star, always awed by the transparent beauty, there but gossamer in appearance. Always some were curious, but stayed their distance as warned by the eternal winds. “Stay clear of the bound places little ones. They are firm and solid, and if you should touch any part you also will be bound and solid.”

She wondered at their words, the orbs were transparent and gossamer, how were they solid. And they seemed lovely and gem like. There are always those who are more curious, she was one. There was another orb they were passing; the winds had called its name Terra. It was a glowing blue-green gem in the heavens. As they approached its space a small group gathered. She wondered, “What is bound?” but the others assured her they would be careful, touch nothing. She was timid, but felt safe with her friends – and the beauty of Terra was enchanting and her curiosity won.

They drifted close to the planet, how odd the place seemed close up – transparent and ghost-like, seeming both there and not. And there were beings there – so very odd, they seemed to have extensions they used to move about and that they used to touch things with. The children went back to the winds, “What are we seeing?” they wanted to know. So the eternal winds explained. They spoke of trees and plants and flowers, and clouds and rain. They told the children what the animals were and what people were. They explained how people built, and cultivated, and formed many different types of clusters.

“May we go back? Just for a bit?” the children asked. Again the eternal winds cautioned them that if they allowed any part of Terra to touch them they would be so bound.

As the children of the light drifted they became braver, drifted closer. They found a small cluster of people – the winds had said this type cluster was called a family. One of the children was watching one of the smallest people in this cluster, it seemed different. This one was inside another, seemed more timid that the rest and somehow she knew this one was different and would always be different. The children knew these others could not see them, they were even more transparent to the others than this orb was to them. Suddenly she realize this smallest one was watching her – could see her. As she went to move away this one reached out, even beyond the one she was in and brushed her hand across the small child of the light.

It all happened in a split second, suddenly this orb was solid, and she could no longer see the stardust field or her friends and she felt herself being drawn into the small one. As her friends watched helpless to do anything she became transparent then seemed to become a part of the small person. “What can we do?” they cried out to the winds.

“She is bound,” whispered the winds, “she will have to find her own way now as do all the solid and bound ones. One day she will ascend, not as a child of light but as the bound ones ascend. On that day she may again walk in the stardust if she is so blessed.”

And so she grew, in time separate from the one she had been in, and her memories as a child of the light faded. She eventually grew and developed her own clusters, but somehow always felt apart, different, although she could not explain why or how. Although they could not intercede, the eternal winds kept watch over her. They whispered to her heart, and though she could not hear them, her heart felt them and they could try to guide her journey. They helped her path cross the paths of those who would shelter her heart and help her to grow. And so she would grow, feeling like she walked two paths yet not understanding why, searching for answers that could only come after she ascends and for those who might understand her.
