A Game of Castles

A Game of Castles

I am at a loss imaging

Choking on jealousy, and envy -

So bitter to the tongue,

Caught up in all those things

You've forgotten to know.

Her cunning arms wrapped around you

So that you could drink deep,

And swallow, bile burning

At the back of your throat.

You were enjoying my distaste.

Reveling in your carnal liaison

Blind and deaf to

the clatter of hoof beats

That shattered the world.

Leaving splinters of bone and dust

On the charred wood of a funeral pyre.

Secrets are dangerous companions

Libel to trip you up, send you

Arms flailing over the abyss.

Something sweet to cover the cloying

Taste of poison

And there isn't any

turning back.

Not a one.

And your head spins

A game of Castles sitting

- Patiently -

On a table

Waiting, perhaps,

For you to notice

That your army

Has turned tail

Disintegrated, and

Turned to dust.
